Apostille for Documents From Other States

Documents issued or notarized outside California, handled from Costa Mesa.

Live in Orange County, but your document comes from another state? A Las Vegas marriage certificate, a Texas birth certificate, a power of attorney notarized in New York? You don't need to deal with another state's office yourself. We handle it from Costa Mesa.

Two ways to apostille it

  • From the state that issued it. An apostille normally comes from the state that issued the document, or the state where it was notarized. A Nevada marriage certificate is apostilled by Nevada, a Texas birth certificate by Texas. We submit it to the right office for you.
  • As a California document. We prepare a copy certification: you sign, in front of our notary, that the copy is true and complete. It's then treated as a California document and gets a California apostille.

The office receiving your document decides which it accepts, so ask them first, then tell us which you need. We can't advise which one the receiving office will accept.

Documents we see most

  • Nevada marriage certificates from Las Vegas weddings: a certified copy from the county recorder where you married (Clark County for Las Vegas). Married in California? See marriage certificate apostille.
  • Birth certificates from other states, such as Texas, New York and Washington: a certified copy from that state's or county's vital records office.
  • Documents notarized in another state, such as powers of attorney and affidavits: apostilled by the state where the notary is commissioned.
  • Diplomas and transcripts from schools in other states: see diploma & transcript apostille for the ways they can be prepared.

Before you send anything

  • Birth and marriage certificates must be certified copies. You, or a close family member, need to order them. We can't order vital records for you.
  • A recently issued copy avoids most problems.
  • Copy certifications are signed in person, at our office or with our mobile notary ($85). We can't notarize unless the signer is present.
  • Sending it by mail or courier? Anything that needs notarizing must be notarized before you send it.
